History is messy for the people who must live it.
– Michel-Rolph Trouillot
U.S. v. Narciso and Perez (1977) is a court case in which two Filipina migrant nurses, Filipina Narciso & my mother, Leonora Perez, were criminalized & framed by the FBI for poisoning & murdering patients at the Ann Arbor VA Hospital in Michigan.
June 16, 1976 marks the 50th anniversary of my mother’s arrest.
For 25 years, in working through this hurt of history, I’ve written, performed, & produced an interdisciplinary/antidisciplinary body of work that explores the intimacies, tensions, & afterlives of this moment of profound anti-Filipina state violence.
I’d like to share this work with you here & elsewhere.
